Director Statement

“A City That Cares” is a short essay film narrated by immigration lawyer and human rights advocate Dr. Irene Pons. Since 2020, we’ve followed her and her students to the U.S.-Mexico border, where lessons from the classroom become real-life experiences. They’ve witnessed the struggles migrants face, stood in camps, and walked desert paths—moments that inspired a deeper commitment to justice and change. In El Paso, Texas—just across from Ciudad Juárez—they discovered something unexpected: a city that welcomes migrants and helps them start again. This film is a tribute to that journey, from hardship to hope through human connection.
