Killin’ Jim Kelly
The story of Jim Kelly, an African-American ranch hand and enforcer for legendary Texas cattleman Print Olive. Jim struggles between violence and peace in the lawless West.
John Marrs has acted in numerous western films. This time he steps behind the camera to direct his first feature-length film. He also plays the role of Print Olive. In addition to acting, he has worked as an Armorer, Horse Wrangler as well as producer.
Being a retired Sheriff’s Sergeant and also retired from the CA Army National Guard, he has a wealth of knowledge on firearms. He got in to the film business after being hired as a technical advisor to train actors with guns.
The script for Killin’ Jim Kelly spoke to me because it’s a story about real people who lived in the harsh realities of the old west. His story, as well as those around him like Print Olive and Doc Holliday is a true Texas tale that needed to be told. The blend of fact and fiction woven together by Gerald Jones gives us a glimpse at what life was like in 1870’s Texas. The story of black cowboys is seldom told so I was happy to bring this one to life. Being a Texas story, it was important that we filmed it on location in the great state of Texas. We hope you enjoy .
