As I’m sure you’re probably aware by now, one of the main characters in ‘New West’ is a man in a horse mask. And yes, he does keep it on throughout the entire duration of the film. So I hope you’re not expecting some kind of a serious drama, because this is a VERY silly film (A lot of dick and fart jokes). It’s also a film with a ton of heart. When making ‘New West,’ I really wanted to see if audiences could actually care about someone with their face covered by something as ridiculous as a horse mask. And while it’s a spoof of the western/singing cowboy genre, as well as a balls to the wall action film at times, it is, most importantly to me, a sincere story about friendship and forgiveness. It’s a film that also combines many of my different inspirations – It pretty much plays like a live action episode of South Park with the violence of a Tarantino film, if that tells you anything. It’s also 40 minutes long ( Yaaaaay! I know most of you festival programmers must love that). In all seriousness, though, this movie was a real labor of love for everyone involved – an endeavor that took three years to complete as my friends and I did literally EVERYTHING ourselves. After countless hours of work, many sleepless nights, and a few stress related hospital/doctor visits later – I am ecstatic to finally be able to share ‘New West’ with you all. I sincerely hope you enjoy it!
