Director Statement

I’m a student attending Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Houston is about an hour drive from school, so my friends and I often frequent the area. Living so close to Houston, we learned that the city has a huge human trafficking and kidnapping issue. I reached out to some friends who sadly, had a lot of first-hand experience with this.

I asked a friend of a friend to describe her kidnapper to me, and she said that “he looked like a normal guy.” Literally, anyone can do and be anything, and that is terrifying. Freelance tries to hit that motif right on the head by telling the tale of two criminals who are introduced as harmless nobodies.
