Andy Harmon was born in California and trained in theatre and film at Brandeis University (BA ’68 MFA ’70). He worked in industrial films as an editor, cameraman and director until 1977, then moving to the UK where he taught and directed theatre for 29 years. Studying Improvisation with Viola Spolin in LA in 1978 & 1980, he ran workshops for actors at The Arts Theatre in London, and for directors at the National Film School. He also taught Spolin Improv at many of London’s leading drama schools and at the National Theatre Studio and the Swedish State Drama School (Malmo). In 1991 he brought his theatre perspective to the corporate sector, creating leadership training and coaching firm Actor’s Mind. His clients included IBM, Price Waterhouse Coopers and McKinsey and Co among many others. As a theatre director, his productions have been seen in Finland, Sweden, the UK and the US. As a playwright, his first full-length play, La Comedia, (co-authored with actress Boel Larsson) premiered in Sweden in 1999. It was presented as a staged reading in London under the auspices of the Swedish Embassy in 2003 and, more recently, at the Hi Desert Cultural Center, Joshua Tree CA where it won the Desert Theater League’s ‘Outstanding Staged Reading’ award for 2016. He now teaches Longform Improv and Acting at the Coachella Valley Repertory Theater in Rancho Mirage CA and leads their Writers Studio. His book about the drama of the creative process, Change Journey: Voices of the Creative Quest is available on Amazon. His new play, Freud’s Golem, was a semi-finalist for the Gary Marshall Theater’s New Works Festival in LA. Happy Birthday Art is his first film collaboration with Writer – Producer, Roy Boucher.
