Heart Cycles
Two grown daughters seek out the first love of their depressed widowed mother. A very heart felt story with a lot of humanity that has been widely praised. The phenom of later in life of thinking of your first great love – how are they, where are they, do they think of me – is a universal feeling.
Praised not only for the film itself but how it broaches the subject of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
High production value in all aspects – story, acting, score, and cinematography. Not your typical predictable formula story yet it has a very satisfying ending. Award winning.
“We really enjoyed Heart Cycles! It is an award winning home grown masterpiece. The synergy of a well written script, great acting, professional choreography and an embellishing soundtrack created the magical Heart Cycles. You warmed us into the everyday lives of each character. Filled us with anticipation for a happy ending. Then you finessed us into the shift that hit like a soft brick. This new reality changed the lives and future of the characters. In doing so, you highlighted a condition too many of us know too well. Though never stated, the underlying message from the start to the end of Heart Cycles is Carpe Diem’!
Congratulations Jay Pennington, Gerry Olert, and the full cast for an outstanding production! – J.C.”
Jay Pennington bio
At the age of 6 I began my passion for great film. Changing channels on a portable black and white TV, I came across PBS showing La Strada. Every Friday night that PBS station would show such films as M, The Cabinet of Dr Calagari, the 400 Blows, and La Belle et La Bette. The power of a great film deeply affected me at the age of 6. As early as elementary school through college I was in speech, drama, and/or film studies. I’ve served as writer, director, and producer over the years with 60+ IMDB credits in acting, writing, and directing.

Gerry Olert (co-director)
I have teamed up with Gerry Olert to make great films. In one of our previous films “Smile” I had written a psychological thriller Western short story. Gerry and I co-directed “Smile” and I had a major role in the film. Gerry is a master cinematographer…sound…and editing and we work like a great team of brothers. “Smile” won many awards in festivals around the globe.
“SENIOR DISCOUNT’d” followed as another Pennington/Olert collaboration. A Docu-Drama that raised awareness of the struggles of aging in the business world and with family. Official Selection in more than 40 festivals. Winning many awards including Best in Festival and a number of Best Actor awards.
The core of Heart Cycles is about my actual high school romance from so many years ago and the universal feeling of reminiscing about one’s first true love. If you were to meet your first true love again there are so many possible outcomes. The writing is full of humanity and love (past and present) and has won a number of “Best” awards in the festivals. The acting in Heart Cycles is stellar which makes it a top film. International composer Andreu Jacob was commissioned to compose and perform the soundtrack. The film has so many levels emotionally and in the media including actual pieces of Super 8 film from that high school romance 40 years ago. So many things of greatness just fell into place in the making of Heart Cycles.
