Huntsville, TX Mayor — Andy Brauninger

MAYOR ANDY BRAUNINGER
Andy Brauninger was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. He graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration/Marketing. After graduation, Andy worked for Gulf States Utilities for two years before finding his life’s calling in the maritime industry. During his career, he advanced with several companies and retired as the President of a major offshore maritime company which operated over 200 vessels worldwide. Since his retirement, Andy has gone back to work with a smaller company, serving as the President of both the holding company and the 2 operating companies on a part-time basis. Over the years, he has also served on several national maritime committees and safety organizations.

Andy and his wife, Marlene, have been married 48 years. They chose Huntsville, Texas, as their retirement home in 1999, after having been exposed to the city as both their children attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University. Andy has served for six years as the chairman of the local chapter of the Quail Sportsman Association and is a member of the Texas State Quail Coalition Board of Governors. He is also a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) in the Huntsville area. Andy and his wife are members of University Heights Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon, usher, and Bible teacher.

Andy was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1972, is a supporter of the local Wounded Warriors Event, and is a member of the American Legion. Andy Brauninger was elected to the City Council in November 2013, elected as Mayor in December 2015, and re-elected as Mayor in 2017.
