The Gold Line
As the sun breaks the horizon, covering the Houston skyline in golden light, six young skateboarders are navigating their own paths through the urban landscape. After coming together, they experience a perfect moment that will not be soon forgotten.
The Gold Line is an experimental short film about the power of skateboarding bringing friends together. I approached the film with the concept of recreating memories from my youth, and the goal of immersing the audience in that experience.
Most of us associate only a few memories with our childhood or youth. For these six friends, this is one of those moments. A memory so powerful that it doesn’t tarnish or fade over time.
All actors and myself are Texans, and this film was shot and edited in Texas.
Lance says that The Gold Line is the culmination of everything he’s learned about cinematography, and post-production.

The Gold Line is an experimental short film about the power of skateboarding bringing friends together. Six friends are creating a memory together in a moment of time that is very limited and beautiful: their youth. The golden hour marks the time at the beginning of the day when the sun has just broken the horizon, and covers everything in gold light. While this is the most spectacular time of day, it does not last long.
I approached this film with the goal of recreating some of my fondest childhood memories of skating all day with my best friends. For these six friends, this is one of those moments that will be remembered. A memory frozen in time, and so powerful, that it does not fade into the background as life goes on.
Skate alongside each of these six friends as they venture through downtown Houston, and experience their golden memory with them.
