Director Statement

VOID was originally intended to be a feature film. I love the ambitiousness of taking risks, so I wondered what it would be like to contain two characters in one place for 80 minutes. Originally, the two characters weren’t going to meet face to face until the closing moments, but one night, I came across a local 10-Minute Play Festival. So, I decided to make VOID a 10-Minute Play, for the time being, and I submitted. It wasn’t long after I did that, that I knew VOID would work better as a short film. And now, here we are.

I am extremely proud of this film. This is the third film Echoe Productions has shot, but it is our first product that is completely finished. The acting in this is powerful, along with metaphors of the shots and the lighting. We shot multiple angles, doing the full script in one long take each time.

VOID feels as if it is a feature length film, even though it is only around 15 minutes. You feel like you fully know both of these characters and all of that is due to Rachel & William’s superb acting. They made my job easy, along with everyone else who helped make this film possible.
